Hialeah Gate Pros provides professional aluminum gates in Hialeah, FL for residential and commercial properties across Miami-Dade County. The argument for aluminum on a commercial gate is not appearance and it is not corrosion. It is inertia. A lighter leaf takes less torque to start, less braking to stop, and puts markedly less wear into the operator on a gate that cycles all day.
That matters most where the counts are high. At a distribution yard running several hundred cycles between shifts, the operator is the component that wears out, and the mass it accelerates twice per cycle is the main thing deciding when. Dropping the leaf weight substantially can be the difference between a gearbox that lasts and one that gets replaced annually. Mass is accelerated and braked twice on every cycle, and the gearbox pays for it each time.
The tradeoff is impact behavior. Aluminum has a lower yield point than steel of the same section, so it bends further and it bends permanently when a truck mirror catches it. Steel dents and springs back more often. On a tight entrance where strikes are likely, that argues for steel, or for aluminum with a reinforced leading edge and a sacrificial bolt on section at the height things hit. A bolt on panel at mirror height is cheap.
Wind is the third factor and it usually favors aluminum for the wrong reason. People assume a lighter gate is worse in a storm. What actually matters is the projected area of the infill and the strength of the posts and footings holding it, not the leaf mass. A light open picket aluminum gate on a properly engineered post is a better performer than a heavy solid steel one on an undersized footing.
How the leaf is built matters as much as what it is built from. On a wide commercial span we run deeper top and bottom rails, brace the frame internally on a diagonal so it cannot rack, and set the infill in a captured channel rather than fixing it to the face. A leaf that holds its shape keeps the trucks in line, and trucks in line are what the operator was sized for.
Fabrication has a rule worth knowing. Welding softens aluminum around each bead, so a heavily welded leaf is weakest exactly where load concentrates. Mechanically fastened corners with internal gussets keep the extrusion at full strength, and on wide commercial spans that is our default. Weld where load is low and fasten where it is not.
Where we tend not to recommend aluminum is a low cycle gate that gets hit regularly. There the wear savings never materialise and the damage bill does. A low cycle gate at a tight entrance is a steel gate.

Materials, equipment and how we do aluminum gates
The difference between aluminum gates that lasts and aluminum gates that gets redone in three years is almost always preparation and materials, not the finish you see on day one. We work with wrought iron and ornamental steel fabrication, rolling and pedestrian security gates, cantilever and roller slide gates, LiftMaster, DoorKing and FAAC operators, spec them to the job instead of to the invoice, and write the material grades into the free estimate so you know exactly what you are buying.
Every Hialeah job runs the same way: site walk and measurements, written scope and fixed price, protection of the surrounding area, then the work itself with a daily clean-up. 15+ years of gate work in Miami-Dade County means we have already met whatever your property is going to throw at us — awkward access, older construction, an HOA with opinions.
